Caesar Salad is nearly a hundred years old. It originates from America, specifically the city of Tijuana (modern-day Mexico). The salad, which has been featured multiple times in the Guinness Book of Records, was invented by Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini.
The classic version consists of romaine lettuce, croutons, and a dressing made from egg, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce, topped with grated Parmesan.
Because the traditional recipe consists of simple ingredients and a delicious dressing, various adaptations have spread worldwide. In Eastern Europe, one of the most popular versions includes the addition of tomatoes, bacon, and chicken.
- 1 bunch of romaine lettuce
- 1 tomato
- a few slices of bacon
- fresh baguette
- olive oil
- 1 large garlic clove
- ½ tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- juice of ½ lemon
- 1 egg
- Parmesan cheese
Tear the romaine lettuce leaves by hand, slice the tomatoes, and fry a few slices of bacon until crispy, then cut them into thin strips.
Break the fresh bread into bite-sized pieces, brush them with olive oil, and toast in the oven until golden and crispy.
For the dressing, blend 1 egg, lemon juice, grated Parmesan, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil until smooth and creamy.
Assemble everything on a plate, add the dressing in the center, and finish with additional grated Parmesan on top.
