Lassi is a popular Indian drink, traditionally made with yogurt. It is highly beneficial to drink lassi after a meal as it aids digestion. The basic ingredients of lassi typically include water, ice, unsweetened yogurt, spices, vegetables, or fruits. In a way, lassi is the ancestor of modern smoothies.

Banana lassi is an excellent snack or mid-afternoon refreshment, and it serves as a great low-calorie alternative to a traditional banana milkshake.

Ingredients
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened yogurt
  • 50 ml water
  • a few ice cubes (optional for summer)
  • juice of ½ lemon
  • ⅓ tsp. ground cardamom (or grind seeds from 4 to 5 green cardamom pods)
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg (optional)
cooking

Blend the chopped banana, yogurt, water, and lemon juice in a blender.

Use ground cardamom or remove the black seeds from green cardamom pods and grind them yourself. Cardamom is one of the essential Indian spices known for its digestive benefits.

If desired, add nutmeg — it has a strong, distinct flavor, so it's for those who enjoy it. Personally, I prefer adding more cardamom instead.

Blend everything until smooth and serve chilled.
