Another warming winter drink. Plum wine is richer, smoother, and has a distinct plum flavor. It has enough natural sweetness and aroma, so sugar is unlikely to be needed. The best spices are those with a deep, intense flavor — preferably whole, not ground.
- 1 bottle of plum wine
- 100 ml of water
- 2 stars of anise pods
- 7 cloves
- zest of one orange
- 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 tsp. ground cinnamon)
- 5 allspice berries
In a saucepan, combine the wine and water, add all the spices and the zest. Heat slowly over low heat, without bringing to a boil. Once the mulled wine starts to bubble slightly at the edges and release steam, turn off the heat and let it sit for a few more minutes. Serve hot.
