Pashtida and baked potatoes are traditional dishes served during Lag BaOmer in Israel. The holiday symbolizes several important events: the beginning of the manna falling in the desert after the Jews' exodus from Egypt, the cessation of the death of 24,000 students of Rabbi Akiva, and the death of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, a prominent disciple of Rabbi Akiva and the author of the Zohar. Now, let's move on to the recipes that can be prepared for Lag BaOmer. This will be a perfect opportunity to try something new and delicious that will complement the festive atmosphere.

Ingredients
cooking

Pashtida (delicious and quick casserole):

Ingredients for the dough:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 8 tablespoons flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 2 cans of canned tuna in its own juice
  • 3-4 boiled eggs (chopped)
  • 1 onion

To prepare the dough, mix all the ingredients in a blender or whisk them with a hand whisk. For the filling, boil the eggs, chop them, fry the onion until golden and add it to the eggs. Then mix with the tuna. Pour 2/3 of the dough into a baking form, top with the filling, and cover with the remaining dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until a golden crust forms.

Baked Potatoes:

Ingredients:

  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 300 g mushrooms
  • Small jar of sour cream or yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 100 g cheese
  • Butter
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Wash the potatoes well, wrap them in foil, and bake in the oven for about an hour at 180°C. In butter, fry the onion with sugar and mushrooms, adding salt and pepper to taste. Then pour in the sour cream and add the cornstarch, cooking until it thickens. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Make a small cut in each baked potato, gently break the inside with a knife to create a grid. Then fill with the mixture and sprinkle with grated cheese. Serve hot.
