Naan is a traditional Indian bread made from wheat dough. It is an integral part of the national cuisine of India and is also popular in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, and other countries. Naan is usually cooked in a clay oven, or a tandoor, but it can be easily prepared at home.

These tortillas are served as an appetizer for soups, main dishes or as an independent dish with various fillings: lamb, cheese, potatoes. Traditionally, naan is smeared with melted butter — ghee, and garlic is often added for flavor.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • A pinch of soda
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2.5 tablespoons of yogurt (or sour cream)
  • 3/4 cup of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of melted butter (ghee)
  • Flour for rolling the dough
cooking

Dissolve the yeast in warm water, add sugar, and leave for 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and soda. Add vegetable oil and yogurt, mix to a crumbly consistency. Pour in the water with the yeast and knead the dough until smooth. Cover it and leave it in a warm place for 3-4 hours so that it rises by half.

After rising, knead the dough and divide it into 6 equal parts. Roll each piece in flour so the dough does not stick to your hands. Roll out the tortillas about 0.5 cm thick.

Preheat the oven to maximum temperature. If there is a fireplace stove for baking, use it. Put the tortillas on the baking surface with wet hands. Bake for about 3 minutes at high temperature. Grease the finished bread with melted butter.
